Every summer, people always feel that their lips are very dry and they don’t know how to take care of them. There is no effective way to relieve the problem in Western medicine. They can only apply some moisturizing lip balm to keep their lips moisturized. In fact, in this case, patients should drink more water. At present, there is no effective treatment in Western medicine. Generally, sesame oil or hormone ointment can be applied to the lips. If combined with fungal infection, antifungal ointment can be used for treatment. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that the lips are closely related to the spleen and stomach, and abnormal lips often reflect spleen and stomach dysfunction. For example: redness, swelling and erosion of the lips are mostly caused by excessive heat in the spleen and stomach, and the treatment is mainly to clear the spleen and stomach fire; carbuncle, hardness and pain on the lips are mostly caused by excessive heat and poison, and the treatment is mainly to clear away heat and detoxify; those with spleen deficiency and phlegm and dampness stagnation should be treated by strengthening the spleen, resolving phlegm and dispersing nodules, etc. 1. Focus on local treatment, remove irritants and correct bad habits. Maintain a balanced diet, a regular lifestyle and a stable mood. To promote normalization of epithelial metabolism, vitamin AD, vitamin C and vitamin B complex can be taken orally. 2. For antibacterial and anti-inflammatory purposes, when there are cracks, exudates and indurations, wet compresses should be applied first. Wet compresses can be made with 0.1% revano solution, 3% boric acid solution, etc. When edema occurs, antibiotic ointments such as erythromycin ointment, tetracycline ointment, etc. can be used. Hormone ointments such as ulcer ointment, Fuqing ointment, dexamethasone ointment, etc. can also be used. 3. For patients with deep fissures, inject 0.5 ml of 2.5% prednisolone acetate suspension under the mucosa of the affected area (an equal amount of 1% procaine solution can be added to reduce pain); under aseptic operation, close the fissure as much as possible, cover and fix the surface with medical glue, and instruct the patient to reduce local movement. 4. Physical therapy: If there is no chapped skin, 10% potassium iodide can be tried as ion introduction therapy. It is common in adolescent boys and girls. It is common in the dry seasons of autumn and winter, often affecting the red part of the upper and lower lips, with the lower lip more often than the upper lip, and is characterized by dryness, desquamation, itching, burning pain, exudation and induration. After a layer of scales on the red lips dry and fall off, new scales will form soon. The patient will feel local dryness and pain, and often lick his lips with the tongue to moisten them. He also often has a mild itchy feeling and rubs his lips from time to time. Repeated exposure over time may cause thickening of the lip tissue or lead to chapped lips. |
