What to do if you have a cough in autumn

It is said that autumn is a season of troubles, and autumn is a sad season. The temperature difference during this period is large, and people are prone to catching colds. At the same time, due to the dry climate, if you don't pay attention to replenishing water, you may have health problems. Cough is the most common symptom. If you have a cough after the fall, be careful to distinguish what type of cough it is. If the symptoms of the cough are not very obvious, physical therapy is generally recommended.

In fact, from a medical point of view, coughing is a normal physiological defense reflex that helps clear mucus from the respiratory tract.

Children under 3 years old have poor cough reflex and phlegm is not easy to expel. If parents give their children stronger cough suppressants as soon as they see them coughing, the cough will stop temporarily, but the phlegm cannot be expelled smoothly and a large amount of phlegm will accumulate in the trachea and bronchi, causing tracheal obstruction. In addition, children may cough gently when they wake up in the morning. This is a physiological phenomenon. It is just clearing the mucus accumulated in the respiratory tract at night. Parents do not need to worry.

Parents must carefully observe and listen to their baby's cough to identify the disease.

Cough symptom 1: Coughing with phlegm, not accompanied by wheezing or rapid breathing, and coughing at any time of day or night.

Other symptoms: drowsiness, runny nose, watery eyes and mild fever (usually no higher than 38.6℃).

The culprit: The common cold, a viral infection of the nose, sinuses, throat and main airways of the lungs. Usually the coughing symptoms will last throughout the entire cold process (about 7 to 10 days), but sometimes the coughing duration will be longer (about half a month to 20 days).

Treatment: Try to keep your child's nasal cavity clean. Nasal congestion or runny nose will aggravate cough symptoms. For infants or young children who cannot blow their noses, parents can use a ball-type nasal aspirator to help their children clear their nasal cavity. If your child's cough and nasal congestion symptoms persist for several days and do not improve, you should take your child to see a doctor. He could have sinusitis (a bacterial infection caused by a cold) or some other condition, such as asthma, allergies, pneumonia, or swollen lymph nodes.

Diet therapy and prevention methods for baby's cold and cough

There are many children suffering from colds, fevers, coughs, and diarrhea recently. My approach is to focus on prevention. First, improve your child's immunity through daily diet, cook garlic porridge, and add more mushrooms such as shiitake mushrooms and enoki mushrooms to the dishes; when a baby who is prone to cough comes back from the cold outside, you can give him or her roasted oranges, stick chopsticks on the oranges, and roast them over an open fire until the skin turns black and emits steam. For babies under one year old, eat one small kumquat at a time, or two to three petals of a large kumquat. For babies between one to three years old, double the number. This dietary therapy is very effective for treating cold coughs.

The cough caused by internal heat leading to lung heat is a hot cough, which is prone to upper respiratory tract problems. Bronchitis, pharyngitis, bronchiolitis and other problems all originate from this, so it is very important to clear lung heat on a daily basis. You can give your child monk fruit water, jade butterfly and sweet almonds in appropriate amounts, less than 4 pieces a day, and rock sugar, snow pear, Sichuan Fritillary/loquat are all very safe and effective for babies. It should be noted that babies under 1 year old should not choose products containing honey, otherwise it is easy to cause botulinum toxin poisoning.

For children with colds, fevers, and runny noses, physical cooling is recommended first. For children with clear runny noses, it is recommended to bathe them in water boiled with mugwort leaves. Wait until the baby's sweat has dried before taking him out of the bathroom. It will be effective after washing three times at most. This method is also very effective for adults who come back from outdoors in winter. If the child has a stuffy nose, applying a hot towel to the forehead can relieve the symptoms. For children with colds, brown sugar ginger water and scallion soup are recommended dietotherapy. For children with fever, boiled water with loquat root can reduce fever. It is effective and does not hurt the stomach.
