How to extract plant essence

How to extract plant essence

The so-called plant essence refers to the substances in plants that help to beautify and nourish the skin. Generally speaking, in order to extract plant essence, professional equipment and distillation are required. As an individual, it is generally difficult to achieve this extraction method. After certain operations, the essence of the plants can be obtained. Regular use of the essence of these plants has a good effect on beauty and skin care and has a certain effect on health care.

How to extract plant essences

1. Mix rose petals with clean water (mass ratio is 1:4)

2. Steaming

3. Distillation to obtain oil-water mixture

4. Add NaCl (the purpose is to increase the salt concentration and make the oil-water separation more obvious)

5. After separating the oil layer, add anhydrous sodium sulfate. (It absorbs water and plays a certain purification role)

6. After standing for a while, filter and you will get the finished product.

Soxhlet extraction

A method of continuously refluxing, leaching, percolating and extracting solid samples using fresh solvent. It is mostly used for crude fat determination in rough analysis. The sample is placed in a filter paper cylinder and continuously leached, percolated and extracted with fresh solvent that is boiled and condensed from the flask below. When the accumulated solvent exceeds a certain height, it can flow back into the flask together with the extract dissolved in it through siphon action. The flask is continuously heated, the solvent is boiled, condensed and falls onto the sample again, and the extract is retained and accumulated in the flask.

Principle: Use low boiling point organic solvent (ether or petroleum ether) to reflux and extract to remove crude fat in the sample, and calculate the crude fat content by the difference between the sample and the residue weight.

1. Cut the filter paper into 8cm×8cm

Fold them into a paper bag with one side unsealed, write serial numbers with a hard pencil, and arrange them in order in the petri dish. Move the culture dish containing the filter paper bag into a 105±2℃ oven and dry it for 2h. Take it out and put it into a desiccator to cool to room temperature.

2.. Packaging and drying

Put about 3 g of the ground sample into the weighed filter paper bag, seal the bag, put it in an oven at 105±2℃ to dry for 3 hours, and move it to a desiccator to cool to room temperature. Put them into the weighing bottle in sequence and weigh them.

3. Extraction

Place the filter paper bag containing the sample into the extraction cylinder using long tweezers, and inject 1.67 times the amount of anhydrous ether as siphoned once, so that the sample bag is completely immersed in the ether. Connect all parts of the extractor, turn on the condensed water flow, and perform extraction in a constant temperature water bath. Adjust the water temperature between 70 and 80°C so that the condensed ether drops in a string (120 to 150 drops/min or reflux more than 7 times/h). Extract until the ether in the extraction tube is free of oil traces when checked with filter paper (about 6 to 12 hours). After the extraction is completed, use long tweezers to remove the filter paper bag and allow the ether to evaporate in a ventilated place (the extraction room temperature should be 12-25℃). The ether in the extraction bottle is recovered separately.

4. Weighing

After the ether evaporates, place the filter paper bag in an oven at 105±2℃ and dry for 2h, then cool it in a desiccator to a constant weight of .
