Symptoms of benign nasal tumors

We have all experienced a stuffy nose, and it is quite uncomfortable. Some people have a stuffy nose every day. This is related to the symptoms of rhinitis and is also related to the growth of nasal tumors. However, nasal tumors can be benign or malignant, so everyone should pay special attention to this. What are the main symptoms of benign nasal tumors? The most common symptom is nose bleeding, and most of the time there is difficulty breathing.

Nasopharyngeal angiofibroma and nasopharyngeal infectious cyst are the most common benign nasopharyngeal tumors. This article mainly uses these two common nasopharyngeal diseases to describe the symptoms of benign nasopharyngeal tumors.

What are the symptoms of nasopharyngeal fibroma hemangioma?

Nasopharyngeal fibroma and angiofibroma often occurs in young men aged 10 to 25 years old. Unlike general fibromas, it is composed of dense connective tissue, a large number of elastic fibers and blood vessels. Therefore, it is also called "male adolescent hemorrhagic nasopharyngeal angiofibroma", which can better reflect the characteristics of this disease. Generally, growth may stop after the age of 25.

Nasopharyngeal fibroma hemangioma can cause a range of symptoms. Repeated heavy bleeding can cause severe anemia, which often endangers the patient's life, so the clinical manifestation is a dangerous disease. Initially, bleeding occurs intermittently and gradually develops into heavy bleeding that is difficult to stop. Repeated bleeding can lead to hemorrhagic anemia. Bleeding is more severe in patients with infection or ulcers.

The nasal congestion is initially unilateral and progressively worsens. If the tumor continues to grow, it may cause bilateral nasal congestion. The patient will often feel dry throat and bitter mouth due to mouth breathing, speak with a closed nasal voice, snore during sleep, and have difficulty falling asleep. He will often be awakened by suffocation when sleeping.

When the tumor grows larger, it will compress the pharyngeal opening of the Eustachian tube, which may cause ear congestion, tinnitus, hearing impairment, and even otitis media. Sinusitis can occur when pressure blocks the natural openings of the sinuses.

Invasion of the eye socket and sinuses can cause eye displacement, diplopia, blindness and facial deformities. When the bones at the base of the skull are destroyed and the cranial cavity is entered to compress the cranial nerves, headache and cranial nerve symptoms may occur.

What are the symptoms of nasopharyngeal infected cysts?

Adenoid median fossa infected cyst or pharyngeal cyst infected cyst are both cysts formed by inflammation of the nasopharynx blocking the opening. After infection, it becomes an abscess. If it ruptures on its own, it becomes a fistula. The former is more common in young people aged 20 to 30, and the latter is more common in children. It can also be seen in 3% of adults, but infection is rare. Most of the cases are caused by adenoids surgery scars affecting drainage.

1. Purulent mucus flows into the pharynx from behind the nose, accompanied by bad breath or bad breath (open cyst type); headache at the back of the occipital region, soreness and stiffness of the muscles behind the neck, and the cyst may rupture and disappear (closed cyst type).

2. The posterior wall of the nasopharyngeal roof is rounded and often covered with purulent scabs in the median adenoid fossa. After the scabs are removed, the local area is congested or has granulation tissue. The probe can easily enter the pharyngeal pouch, and bean dregs-like substances overflow from the cavity. The cervical lymph nodes are often enlarged. The nasal cavity is normal.
