The effect of zinc oxide on the skin

Zinc oxide is a chemical substance. If this chemical substance is inhaled into the body, it will cause many effects on people. For example, people may feel dry mouth and want to cough. Some serious cases may even cause allergic symptoms, resulting in many rashes on the skin. In addition, zinc oxide has many other functions on the skin. Let’s learn about them with the editor below.

Health hazards of zinc oxide: Inhalation of zinc oxide fumes causes zinc casting fever. Symptoms include metallic taste in the mouth, thirst, dry throat, loss of appetite, chest tightness, dry cough, headache, dizziness, limb pain, high fever and chills. Large amounts of zinc oxide dust can block the sebaceous gland ducts and cause skin papules and eczema.

Leakage treatment

Isolate the leakage contaminated area and set up warning signs around it. It is recommended that emergency response personnel wear masks, goggles and work clothes. Sweep it up carefully to avoid dust, and bury it in an open area. It can also be rinsed with plenty of water and the diluted washing water can be put into the wastewater system. In case of large-scale leakage, collect and recycle it or dispose of it after harmless treatment.

Skin contact: Wash thoroughly with soap and water. Seek medical attention.

Eye contact: Hold eyelids open and rinse with running water for 15 minutes. Seek medical attention.

Inhalation: Move away from the scene to fresh air. Seek medical attention.

Ingestion: In case of accidental ingestion, take milk, soy milk or egg white orally and perform gastric lavage. Seek medical attention.

Acute toxicity LD50: 7950 mg/kg (oral in mice)

Hazardous properties: Reacts violently with magnesium and linseed oil. Mixtures with chlorinated rubber may explode if heated above 215°C. It decomposes under high heat and emits toxic fumes.

Combustion (decomposition) products: Natural decomposition products are unknown.

Transportation precautions: The packaging must be complete and the loading should be secure during shipment. During transportation, ensure that the container does not leak, collapse, fall or be damaged. It is strictly forbidden to mix and transport with oxidants. During transportation, it should be protected from exposure to sunlight, rain and high temperature.
