The ear is an inconspicuous part of our body, but it is a very important part. In our daily life, ear care is often neglected. The ear is a very magical part. Sometimes you suddenly lose your hearing without any warning, or you may suddenly lose your hearing after suffering from a cold or some disease. This is sudden deafness and you need to go to the hospital for treatment in time. If you suddenly lose your hearing, you should consider it as sudden deafness. Sudden deafness is a type of sensorineural hearing loss that occurs suddenly for unknown reasons and is difficult to treat. If the blood pressure, body temperature, heartbeat and nervous system are all normal. The clinical manifestations of sudden deafness mostly occur in middle-aged people. Most of them have no obvious general discomfort before the onset of the disease, but most patients first have excessive fatigue, anxiety, mood swings or depression, or have a history of colds. 1. Deafness This disease comes on violently. Hearing loss can occur in an instant, hours or days. Some people may suddenly feel deaf in the morning. In chronic cases, the deafness may gradually worsen and stop progressing after a few days. Its severity ranges from mild to complete deafness. It can be temporary or permanent. It is mostly unilateral and occasionally bilateral at the same time or one after the other. It can be cochlear deafness or retro-cochlear deafness. 2. Tinnitus: Tinnitus may occur before or after deafness, accounting for about 70% of cases. It usually appears a few hours before deafness and is mostly a buzzing sound. It can last for 1 month or longer. Some patients may emphasize tinnitus and ignore hearing loss. 3. Dizziness lasts for about 2/5 days. 1/2 of sudden deafness is accompanied by varying degrees of vertigo, of which about 10% are severe deafness, nausea, and vomiting, which can last for 4 to 7 days. Mild dizziness can exist for more than 6 weeks. A small number of patients seek medical treatment with vertigo as the main symptom, which is easily misdiagnosed as Meniere's disease, which will be relieved after a few days and will not recur. 4. Ear blockage The feeling of ear blockage usually appears before deafness. 5. Nystagmus If vertigo exists, there may be spontaneous nystagmus. For patients with obvious vertigo and tinnitus, the patient's deafness may be ignored, and the deafness may only be discovered after the vertigo is alleviated. About 2/3 of patients have tinnitus, which often occurs before hearing loss. It can also occur after hearing loss, with a very high pitch. Even after hearing is restored after treatment, tinnitus can still persist for a long time. About half of the patients experience vertigo before or after hearing loss. A few people may experience a feeling of blockage and pressure in the ear, or numbness around the ear. |
