Eighty-five percent of people suffering from hyperinsulinemia are obese people. This is because these people develop resistance to insulin and the body secretes more insulin. So what are the diagnostic criteria for this disease, hyperinsulinemia? Children with clinical hypoglycemia and the following abnormalities can be diagnosed with hyperinsulinemia. Items 1, 2, and 3 are particularly important. 1. Plasma insulin>12mU/ml. 2. Plasma insulin/blood glucose>0.3. 3. Glucagon test was positive. 4. Blood β-hydroxybutyrate <1.mmol/L. 5. Blood free fatty acids <0.6mmol/L. 6. Plasma insulin was normal, but plasma C-peptide was elevated. 7. An intravenous glucose infusion rate of >15 mg/(kg·min) is required to maintain normal blood glucose concentration [the glucose production rate of neonates is 5-8 mg/(kg·min)]. 8. Congenital hyperinsulinemia often becomes apparent after the first year of life, sometimes with an inability to tolerate increased intervals between feedings and an inability to sleep through the night. Sometimes an unusual stress such as an illness precipitates a severe hypoglycemic episode. |
