There is a very rare disease in life called ALS. There are relatively few people suffering from this disease, but the condition is quite serious after contracting it. The patient's limbs are often frozen, but the frozen parts are different each time. Moreover, patients with this disease are generally incurable and will die as the frozen area increases. So what are the early symptoms of ALS? There is a special group of people in the world: their bodies seem to be frozen by ice and snow, today it's their legs, tomorrow it's their hands, and finally even the muscles that control the movement of their eyeballs are no exception. However, they stood up from the ice and snow and used love to thaw their own lives and the lives of their fellow patients. Hawking, Wang Jia, Gong Xunhui... Today is World ALS Day. Let’s care for people with ALS and make life no longer powerless! The Ice Bucket Challenge that became popular around the world in 2014 gave the public the opportunity to know that there is a group like ALS people around us - people with rare diseases. "Lou Gehrig's disease" is one of the five incurable diseases listed by the World Health Organization. The medical name for "Lou Gehrig's disease" is amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, a type of motor neuron disease. Because the motor neurons in the patient's brain, brain stem and spinal cord are attacked, the patient's muscles gradually atrophy and become weak, and even paralyzed. The body is like being gradually frozen, so it is commonly known as "Lou Gehrig's disease". ALS in the World Early Symptoms of ALS Since the sensory nerves are not affected, the disease does not affect the patient's intelligence, memory or sensation. The onset and early progression of ALS are often insidious, and patients typically see a range of medical specialists, and even neurologists may not recognize ALS early in the disease course. By the time clinical signs of weakness appear, 80% of motor neurons have disappeared. It is worth noting that the rate of progression of ALS varies greatly among individuals. Although some factors influencing survival are known, it is still impossible to predict the course of the disease and life expectancy for each individual patient. In 1997, the International Union of ALS Associations chose June 21st of each year to hold various activities related to the understanding of motor neurone disease, hoping that on this day every year the treatment of this terrible disease and social care will attract widespread attention from the world. In 2000, June 21 was officially designated as World ALS Day at an international ALS conference held in Denmark. Currently, medicine cannot cure ALS, and the cause has not been fully identified. Let’s take a look at the early symptoms of ALS. |
