X-ray manifestations of osteochondroma

X-ray manifestations of osteochondroma

Examination of people's internal bodies is mainly achieved through some scientific instruments. X-ray is a common way to examine internal problems of the body. X-rays can not only check people's internal problems, but also detect tumors or other symptoms. Many people are curious about the use of X-rays to examine the body. So what do symptoms such as cartilage and bone tumors look like under X-rays? Let’s take a look at it together below.

Osteochondroma is a very common disease for children, but it is a highly malignant tumor that needs to be identified and diagnosed. So, what does osteochondroma look like on x-ray?

The X-ray manifestation of osteochondroma is a bone lesion protruding from the epiphysis, which is generally smaller than what is seen clinically. Because the cartilage cap and bursa are not visible, the bone image of the tumor is exactly the same as the bone structure of the epiphysis where it is located. Not easy to distinguish.

The growth direction of tumors located in long bones is consistent with the direction of traction of adjacent muscles. For example, osteochondromas in the distal femur grow toward the femur, and tumors in the proximal tibia grow toward the distal tibia. Its shape varies and may have a very long stalk and a narrow base. Or it may be very short and thick with a broad base. Larger tumors may have a cauliflower-like bulge at the top, a hanging bony mass with its tip pointing in the opposite direction of the adjacent joint. Its base is continuous with the bone cortex directly or through a thin pedicle.

Although the cartilage cap on the surface of the tumor does not show up on X-rays, it often has calcification and ossification. Larger tumors located in the forearm and calf can compress adjacent bones, causing compressive bone defects or deformities. Multiple cases are often accompanied by skeletal deformities.

Patients should maintain an ideal body weight. Eat a variety of foods. Include a variety of vegetables and fruits in your daily diet. Eat more high-fiber foods (such as whole-grain cereals, beans, vegetables, and fruits). Reduce your overall fat intake. Limit your alcoholic beverage intake. Limit the intake of pickled, smoked, and nitrite-containing foods.

Therefore, the X-ray manifestations of osteochondroma can refer to the above introduction, or you can consult a doctor and make a judgment based on the doctor's introduction, which will help with treatment.
