What to do if you have back pain

What to do if you have back pain

Although the way people work has changed dramatically with the advent of computers, many people's job is to sit at a desk every day and complete all tasks on the computer. However, because of this, the health of many office workers has also changed greatly, and back pain is quite common. So what should we do about back pain? Patients should first understand the cause of their pain and improve bad sitting habits as soon as possible.

1. Assess your activity level

Reason: Think about whether you sit too much, especially if you often work on the computer, which may cause back pain. While inactivity can sometimes lead to lower back pain, the type of lower back pain that requires medical intervention is often as simple to cure as the cause. If you think your back pain may be caused by sitting too much, try increasing your activity level to relieve the pain.

Action: Try getting up and walking around after working at your desk for 1-2 hours. It is important to get up from your chair and move around at least once every 60 minutes. If you're really busy at work, try to improve your lumbar comfort by using a lumbar support pillow or an ergonomically designed chair.

2. Bad sleeping habits

Cause: Bad sleeping posture or uncomfortable mattress can easily lead to back pain. Sleeping in the prone position on the bed is the bad habit that is most likely to cause back pain. This is because when we lie prone, the muscles in the waist and back cannot be completely relaxed. Muscles that are contracted for a long time may spasm, just like a stiff neck, which can cause pain in the waist and back.

What to do: Try turning over on your back to see if you can get some relief. You might also want to place a pillow under your knees to see if that helps. Also try sleeping with a pillow between your knees.

3. Shoes that don’t fit you

Reason: When we wear inappropriate shoes, it is easy to cause flat feet or high arches in the long run. If you often wear uncomfortable and unsupportive shoes, they may be the cause of your back pain.

Measures: When you have low back pain, you may want to evaluate the soles of your feet to see if you have symptoms of flat feet or if it is caused by inappropriate shoes. Especially flat shoes like slippers are harmful to the back, and they may have the same impact on the soles of the feet as high heels.

4. Carrying heavy things for a long time

Causes: In some cases, back pain may be caused by carrying heavy objects, especially asymmetrical carrying of objects for a long time, which can easily cause muscle pain in the long run.

What to do: If you frequently carry heavy bags or other items, try lightening the load to see if your back pain improves over time.
