Are there any sequelae after colonoscopy?

When we feel uncomfortable in our body, we will go to the hospital for some examinations. Currently, there are many examination methods for problems in non-painful parts of the body. Colonoscopy is an examination method used when a patient has some intestinal diseases but the specific location of the disease and the cause of the disease cannot be determined. Although colonoscopy can judge the condition more accurately, it will of course have some effects on the body.

Are there any side effects of colonoscopy?

Colonoscopy has little impact on the human body. Gastroscopy is a bit painful because it has to pass through the epiglottis of the mouth, which can cause nausea and vomiting. However, there is basically no pain when the colonoscopy passes through the anus. You just need to take laxatives to clean your intestines the night before the examination. But it did not cause any pain.

Colonoscopy indications

1. Unexplained lower gastrointestinal bleeding.

2. Chronic diarrhea of unknown cause;

3. Unexplained low intestinal obstruction;

4. Suspected colorectal or terminal ileum tumor;

Precautions

1. Please stay in bed and rest after biopsy or polypectomy. Do not do strenuous exercise or barium enema examination within three days. After electrosurgical polypectomy, the doctor will generally require you to fast for three days and give you intravenous infusion depending on your condition. If there is no blood in the stool and the condition is satisfactory, you can be discharged from the hospital.

2. In the early stage, you may feel bloating and discomfort due to the accumulation of air in the large intestine, but it will gradually disappear after a few hours. If your abdominal distension is obvious, you should tell your doctor or nurse and the doctor will give you appropriate treatment.

3. If there are no special conditions, you can take normal food or eat according to the doctor's advice.

4. If you experience persistent abdominal pain or excessive bleeding in your stool, you should tell your doctor immediately to avoid accidents.

What to do during a colonoscopy

1. Check whether you have eaten low-residue and easily digestible food for lunch and dinner the day before. (Such as porridge, noodles, etc.) Do not eat green vegetables, fruits, meat, etc. Do not eat breakfast on the day of the examination.

2. Take laxatives. Take 2 phenolphthalein tablets orally before going to bed on the night of the examination. Take the laxatives with 3000ml of warm water at 8 am on the day of the examination. People with constipation should eat semi-liquid food for 2 to 3 days and then take laxatives to cleanse the intestines.

3. While taking the medicine, the patient should walk back and forth and gently rub the abdomen to speed up the defecation. Generally, defecation will begin after half an hour, and the bowels can be basically cleared after 5 to 7 consecutive defecations. Observe the stool: only clear water sample can be checked.

4. The patient can only eat a small amount of porridge at 2 pm on the same day to avoid collapse caused by fasting for too long.

5. Before the examination, the patient needs to put on surgical pants to fully expose the anus for the doctor to examine.

6. If no bowel movement occurs 4 hours after taking the laxative, it is considered ineffective. You should go to the hospital to prepare for another bowel cleansing.
