How to test uric acid by yourself

How to test uric acid by yourself

I believe everyone pays great attention to their physical health. After all, the body is the capital of revolution. Without the body, everything else is empty talk. It is common to measure something to reflect your physical health, such as uric acid, which can effectively reflect the kidney function of the human body. Uric acid can be measured by yourself, but how to measure it? Here I will introduce how to measure uric acid by yourself.

Uric acid is an organic compound and cannot be measured using pH test paper. It seems that there are no test strips or instruments for home testing. My friend, high uric acid level is different from diabetes. Uric acid does not need to be monitored in a timely manner, and its fluctuation is not as instructive for clinical treatment as blood sugar fluctuations. Therefore, there is no need to test uric acid yourself.

(1) The uricase method is currently widely used for the determination of blood uric acid both at home and abroad. This method uses the colorimetric method of uricase reduction of uric acid for determination and has high specificity. According to statistics, the normal blood uric acid level in Chinese men is 178-416 micromol/L (3-7 mg/dL), and the normal blood uric acid level in Chinese women is 148.5-356 micromol/L (2.5-6 mg/dL). Most untreated gout patients have elevated blood uric acid levels, and the increase is more obvious in secondary gout than in primary gout.

The following points should be noted when measuring blood uric acid: ① Blood should be drawn in the early morning on an empty stomach for testing. If necessary, the patient should avoid high-purine diet and drinking alcohol the day before blood drawing; ② Before blood drawing, stop taking drugs that affect uric acid excretion, such as salicylates, antihypertensive drugs, and diuretics, and stop taking them for at least 5 days; ③ Avoid strenuous activities before blood drawing, such as running or climbing quickly; ④ Because blood uric acid sometimes fluctuates, a normal blood uric acid measurement cannot completely deny elevated blood uric acid. If there is any clinical suspicion, the test should be repeated.

(2) Uric acid measurement Uric acid is a test that reflects the reabsorption and secretion function of the renal tubules of uric acid. It can be used clinically to determine whether hyperuricemia is caused by excessive uric acid production, reduced uric acid excretion, or both. In addition, it plays a certain guiding role in selecting therapeutic drugs and monitoring treatment effects. After 5 days of eating a low-purine diet, a normal person's 24-hour urine uric acid result should be less than 600 mg, or when on a regular diet, the 24-hour urine uric acid result should be less than 1000 mg. If the blood uric acid level is elevated but the 24-hour urine uric acid level is less than 600 mg, it is a case of poor uric acid excretion. Otherwise, it may be an overproduction type. Distinguishing between the two is of certain value in treatment.
