What are the early signs of brain cancer in children

What are the early signs of brain cancer in children

The incidence of brain cancer in children is relatively high. Due to the lack of obvious symptoms and the lack of knowledge of brain cancer among parents, it is easy to be misdiagnosed as other diseases. Therefore, when children have the following conditions, it may be a sign of brain cancer:

Decreased vision but not myopia

In childhood, decreased vision does not necessarily mean myopia. Changes in vision are complex and can be caused by various reasons, including eye, brain, and systemic factors. Sometimes, the first symptom of brain cancer is only decreased vision. Because children have poor expressive ability and vision changes are not easy to detect, and parents are not vigilant enough about vision changes, diagnosis and treatment are easily delayed.

Vomiting without eating

Most children will also experience headaches or dizziness when vomiting. The headache is mostly caused by increased intracranial pressure, mainly in the occipital area. The vomiting is jet-like and has nothing to do with diet. Vomiting often occurs in the early morning at the beginning of the disease, and can occur at any time as the disease progresses. It is intermittent and recurrent.

Unsteady walking

If brain cancer grows in the posterior cranial fossa, it will involve or compress the cerebellar vermis, cerebellum or brain stem, manifesting as unstable standing, skewed gait, accompanied by inaccurate and unstable holding of objects, nystagmus, etc.

Seizures

All tumors may cause epilepsy, especially tumors in the motor area of the cerebral hemispheres. If children suffer from epilepsy without trauma or high fever, they should be highly alert to the possibility of brain cancer.

If children show the above symptoms, parents should take them to the hospital for relevant examinations in time to ensure early detection and treatment.
