Health education during the chemotherapy stage of breast cancer

Health education during the chemotherapy stage of breast cancer

Breast cancer patients who need chemotherapy should be given relevant health education so that they can receive treatment with peace of mind and no longer panic and fail to cooperate with treatment due to symptoms that may occur during the treatment. Education can be provided in three stages: before chemotherapy, during chemotherapy, and after chemotherapy.

Pre-chemotherapy education

Before chemotherapy, patients should be introduced to breast cancer related knowledge and treatment methods, and be informed of the chemotherapy regimen and process, as well as possible reactions during treatment. In addition, patients can be helped to communicate with patients who have achieved good treatment results to help them build confidence, so that they can actively face the disease, face reality, and welcome the upcoming treatment with a positive attitude.

Education during chemotherapy

Education at this stage should focus on possible adverse reactions and protection knowledge due to chemotherapy, such as nausea, vomiting, hair loss and other adverse reactions.

Patients should use antiemetic drugs as prescribed by the doctor and insist on eating, because food can effectively neutralize stomach acid, promote gastrointestinal motility, and reduce irritation to the gastric mucosa. Treatment during chemotherapy should focus on light foods that are high in protein, calories, vitamins, and fat.

In addition, patients can be guided to perform relaxation therapies, such as listening to music or the radio, to divert their attention and relieve symptoms.

Post-chemotherapy education

Education after chemotherapy mainly focuses on improving the patient's immunity. Patients should be advised to do appropriate exercise, which should not be too intense, and to combine work and rest. In addition, patients should be advised to add clothes at any time to prevent colds, fevers and other diseases, and avoid going to public places.
