Esophageal cancer patients have basically passed the surgical trauma period 5 to 10 days after surgery, and gastrointestinal function begins to gradually recover. At this time, patients begin to have an appetite. In the early stage, they can be given a small amount of boiled water and then gradually increased. At this time, the patient can take porridge made from coix seed. Coix seed is also known as job's tears, coix seed, etc. It is cool in nature, sweet and light in taste. The diet therapy suitable for patients includes "Coix seed, lotus seed and red date porridge", the ingredients of which are 100 grams of coix seed, 30 grams of lotus seeds, 20 red dates and 50 grams of japonica rice.

Preparation method: First, pick out the coix seeds, lotus seeds, and red dates, wash them, soak the red dates in warm water for a while, remove the core and set aside. Then put the coix seeds and lotus seeds into a casserole, add enough water to soak, boil over high heat, add the red dates, simmer over low heat for 1 hour, add the washed glutinous rice, continue to simmer over low heat until the coix seeds and lotus seeds are cooked and soft, and the porridge is thick and sticky.

This dietary therapy has the effect of strengthening the spleen and stomach, replenishing qi and blood, and is very effective in relieving symptoms such as weakness, edema, and fatigue in patients with esophageal cancer after surgery.
