Middle-aged men are more likely to develop stomach cancer

Middle-aged men are at high risk of gastric cancer, with an incidence rate 1.5-2.5 times that of women. The peak period of onset is between 40 and 80 years old. The reasons why middle-aged men are more susceptible to gastric cancer are as follows:

Gastric cancer is more common in men

The incidence of gastric cancer in men is much higher than that in women. In addition to smoking and drinking, it is also related to estrogen. Estrogen has a protective effect on the stomach. Studies have shown that women who receive hormone replacement therapy (which includes estrogen) have a 48% lower incidence of gastric cancer, with the risk of non-cardia gastric adenocarcinoma reduced by 66% and that of cardia gastric adenocarcinoma reduced by 32%.

Gastric cancer is more common in middle-aged people

Middle-aged men are at high risk of stomach problems. Excessive smoking and drinking and irregular lifestyle are the main reasons for the decline in stomach function in middle-aged men. Men love to smoke, and tobacco itself contains carcinogens. Smokers are 50% more likely to have stomach cancer than non-smokers. Middle-aged men have stressful work and relatively high life pressures. These repeated adverse stimuli to the cerebral cortex can easily lead to stomach lesions. Clinical data show that most middle-aged men suffer from stomach problems to varying degrees, especially gastric ulcers. Diseases such as gastric polyps, gastric ulcers, chronic atrophic gastritis and pernicious anemia may develop into gastric cancer, so people with these diseases should be doubly vigilant.

Tips: In 2005, the incidence of gastric cancer in my country was 37.1/100,000 among males and 17.4/100,000 among females. The incidence of gastric cancer in males is much higher than that in females.
