Five-year postoperative survival rate of advanced gastric cancer

What is the 5-year survival rate after surgery for advanced gastric cancer? Gastric cancer is one of the most common malignant tumors in my country. Its incidence rate is highest in the northwest, followed by the northeast and Inner Mongolia, then the east China and coastal areas, and lowest in central, southern and southwest China. According to statistics, there are 400,000 new gastric cancer patients and 300,000 deaths in my country each year, both ranking first in the world. Gastric cancer is the second most common tumor in my country.

In 2005, the incidence of gastric cancer in China was 37.1/100,000 in males and 17.4/100,000 in females. From 2000 to 2005, the incidence and mortality of gastric cancer decreased slightly, but this downward trend was caused by males. On the contrary, the incidence and mortality of gastric cancer in females both tended to increase.
The 5-year survival rate after gastric cancer surgery can be as high as 65%.
"Clinical work has shown that early diagnosis of gastric cancer can significantly improve prognosis. The five-year survival rate after surgery for early gastric cancer is 90%, for stage II it is 66%, for stage III it is 51%, and for advanced gastric cancer it is only 14%. It takes about 2 to 7 years for gastric cancer to develop from the early stage to the advanced stage, with an average of about 3 years. Therefore, the importance of early diagnosis of gastric cancer has been widely recognized. Early detection and treatment of early gastric cancer is of great significance to improving the treatment effect of gastric cancer."
In the past 20 years, my country has attached great importance to basic research on gastric cancer, which has promoted the development of clinical treatment. At present, the improvement of surgical treatment technology for gastric cancer and the standardization of surgery have increased the 5-year survival rate after surgery from less than 20% to 50% to 65%.
