What is the cause of osteosarcoma

Osteosarcoma is difficult to cure and is prone to recurrence. So what exactly causes osteosarcoma? Here I will first introduce to you what osteosarcoma is. Osteosarcoma, also known as osteogenic sarcoma, is a common malignant bone tumor that occurs in adolescents or children under the age of 20. It is the most common malignant bone tumor in children, accounting for about 5% of pediatric tumors. After understanding osteosarcoma, let's learn about the causes of osteosarcoma.

The occurrence of osteosarcoma is related to the following factors.

1. Viruses: Experiments have shown that animal osteosarcoma is related to viral infection, but there is no definite data to explain the relationship between human osteosarcoma and viruses.

2. Malignant transformation of benign bone diseases: such as multiple osteochondromas, Paget's disease of bone, fibrous dysplasia of bone, etc., which may lead to osteosarcoma, also known as secondary osteosarcoma.

3. Active growth of bones.

4. Radiation: Experiments have shown that any radioactive substance that can accumulate in the bones can induce osteosarcoma; local radiation therapy for certain bone diseases such as giant cell tumor of bone, aneurysmal bone cyst or extra-bone tumors such as breast tumor, retinoblastoma, etc. can occasionally cause secondary osteosarcoma.

5. Heredity: The retinoblastoma gene Rb gene is located on chromosome 13q14. It is currently known that it is a tumor suppressor gene mutation or deletion. Patients with hereditary retinoblastoma have a much higher risk of developing osteosarcoma than the average person. In recent years, it has been found that some osteosarcoma patients also have mutations in the Rb gene.

The above are the causes of osteosarcoma that we want to share with you. We hope it will be helpful to you.
