The difference between thyme and musk

The difference between thyme and musk

People who often watch TV dramas should know that musk is used to cause miscarriage in many palace fighting dramas. This also reflects a common sense that pregnant women cannot smell the smell of musk, otherwise it will cause miscarriage in the pregnant woman. However, as a Chinese medicinal material, musk has a very obvious cardiotonic effect on the human body. There is another Chinese medicinal material called thyme. Next, I will explain to you in detail the difference between thyme and musk.

1. The efficacy of thyme

Antibacterial effect: Volatile oils, especially thyme, have antiseptic and disinfectant effects and can be used to sterilize the mouth and throat. The properties of thymol are similar to those of phenol, but its effect is stronger (phenol coefficient is 25). However, its effectiveness is greatly reduced when it encounters organic matter, and its solubility in water is much worse than that of phenol (1/100). It has an inhibitory effect on Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli: the ethanol or saline extracts of the stems and leaves are more effective during the flowering season. The steam of volatile oils also has a good effect. It also has antifungal effects, and 1% thyme alcohol solution or 2% powder can be used for dermatophyte infection. It can be applied topically or taken orally for actinomycosis, but penicillin is more effective. Anthelmintic effect: Thymol has a paralyzing effect on hookworms and whipworms, but due to its high toxicity, it has been replaced by other better anthelmintics. It can also be used to treat coccidiosis. Effect on respiratory tract: The leaves have expectorant effect. Its extract can enhance the secretion of bronchial mucosa, thymol and carvacrol can promote the movement of cilia (frog trachea), and it is discharged from the lungs in its original form, so it has a bactericidal effect. Some people believe that it can be used to treat tracheitis and whooping cough.

2. What is thyme?

Shrubby evergreen herb. The stem is hard and upright, quadrangular, 18 to 30 cm high and much branched. The leaves are sessile, opposite, linear-lanceolate to ovate-lanceolate, 9-12 mm long, about 4 mm wide, with pointed apex, slightly recurved leaf margin, entire margin, broadly cuneate base, short hairs on the upper surface, and densely glandular dots. The branches are sparsely covered with whorls of inflorescence; the surface of the calyx is green with short soft hairs and glandular dots, the lower lip is 2-lobed into needle-like shapes, the upper lip is 3-lobed, and the lobes are shorter than those of the lower lip; the corolla is pink, slightly longer than the calyx, the upper lip is upright, the oil glands are obvious, and it has a camphor scent; there are two strong stamens that extend beyond the corolla, and the anthers are red; the pistil stigma is 2-lobed and red. Nutlets are brown. Flowering period is from May to June. Native to the Mediterranean coast; cultivated in China.

The efficacy and function of musk

1. Strengthen your heart

Musk, a traditional Chinese medicine, has a very obvious impact on the human nervous center. It can excite the human central nervous system, accelerate the heart rate and increase blood pressure, and significantly increase the heart's contraction ability. Its cardiotonic effect is particularly obvious.

2. Antibacterial and anti-inflammatory

Musk is also a traditional Chinese medicine that can be antibacterial and anti-inflammatory. It has obvious inhibitory and clearing effects on many pathogenic bacteria in the human body, such as Escherichia coli, Pneumococcus, and Staphylococcus, and can prevent and eliminate various inflammatory symptoms in the human body.

3. Anti-cancer

Musk, a traditional Chinese medicine, contains some water-soluble proteins, which can increase the number of immune cells in the human body and improve the body's immunity. In addition, some medicinal ingredients contained in musk have a significant destructive effect on cancer cells in the human body. It can inhibit the regeneration of cancer cells. Taking it regularly can prevent cancer, and sometimes it can also be used as an auxiliary treatment for human cancer.

Musk taboos

1. Musk is a toxic Chinese medicinal material. It is forbidden to take it in excess, otherwise it will cause obvious irritation to the human digestive tract mucosa, paralyze the respiratory center, and cause heart failure. In severe cases, it can lead to death.

2. Pregnant women are prohibited from taking musk because it has a significant stimulating effect on the female uterus. It can accelerate the contraction of the female uterus, and taking it will cause miscarriage for pregnant women. In addition, pregnant women should stay away from musk, otherwise the smell of this traditional Chinese medicine inhaled during breathing will have a significant effect of inducing labor, which may induce premature birth or miscarriage, which is very detrimental to the safety of the fetus and pregnant women.
