Gout is actually a joint disease, because in the early stages of gout, patients often experience joint pain. Gout is mainly a disease caused by abnormal purine metabolism in the patient's body, so gout patients must strictly control their diet to prevent the gout from developing to a serious level. If gout is not treated in time, a small number of gout patients will develop chronic renal failure. Therefore, it is very necessary to understand the symptoms of gout at this time. Joint pain: When gout first attacks, there is often sudden, acute pain in a single joint, usually in the big toe. Later attacks may involve multiple joints, such as the ankles, knees, wrists, and elbows. The pain often occurs at night when the patient is sleeping, without any previous symptoms, or it may occur after the patient has consumed excessive amounts of alcohol. Swollen joints: The pain gradually increases and is often described as throbbing or tenderness. Inflammation then occurs, and the patient develops redness, swelling, heat, and pain in the affected joints. This is one of the early symptoms of gout and sometimes, the pain is so severe that the patient cannot even tolerate the weight of the bed sheet on the joint. Other symptoms: In addition to joint swelling and pain, other symptoms of gout patients may include fever, rapid heartbeat, chills, and general discomfort. Uric acid deposited in the skin is called tophi, which are white nodules under the skin, mostly appearing on the hands, feet, elbows, and external ears. Symptoms during remission: The first gout attack usually only lasts a few days, but if left untreated, the next attack may last for several weeks. Symptoms eventually resolve, and between attacks, patients return to normal joint function. As the disease progresses, the remission periods become shorter and shorter, and the number of attacks increases within a year. One point that needs to be pointed out is that a small number of gout patients may develop chronic renal failure. Therefore, timely treatment must be ensured and the disease must be controlled in a timely manner. Of course, this type of patient often has kidney diseases, such as kidney stones. When this happens, be vigilant. |
