Is sugarcane a fruit?

Sugarcane is a common plant in the southern region. It is rich in sugar substances, so people used to use sugarcane to make white sugar. But in fact, it is also possible to eat sugarcane directly, because sugarcane is rich in water and sugar substances. Eating more sugarcane can effectively promote salivation and quench thirst. But many people wonder when eating sugarcane, is sugarcane considered a fruit?

Sugarcane is an annual or perennial tropical and subtropical herb and a C4 crop. The sweet cylindrical stem is erect, tillering, clustered, and has nodes with buds on the nodes; the internodes are solid, covered with wax powder, purple, red or yellow-green in color; the leaves are clustered, with thick white midribs; large panicles are terminal, with long silver hairs at the base of the spikelets, and small oblong or oval caryopsis.

Sugarcane is a tall, solid perennial herb. The rhizome is thick and well developed. The culm is 3-5(-6) meters tall. 2-4(-5)cm in diameter, with 20-40 nodes, the lower internodes are shorter and thicker, covered with white powder.

It can be seen from this that sugarcane is a herbaceous plant belonging to the genus Saccharum, not a fruit. In fact, we can eat the pulp of most ordinary fruits directly and taste its deliciousness. But when it comes to sugarcane, we usually eat it by chewing and sucking the juice. What we eat is the sweet juice of the sugarcane, not the pulp. From this we can also see the difference between sugarcane and fruit.

In fact, for most foodies, the debate about whether sugarcane is a fruit or not is of little practical significance. As long as we know that sugarcane juice is delicious and nutritious, we can satisfy our inner satisfaction!

What is the nutritional value of sugarcane?

Sugarcane has high nutritional value. It contains a lot of water and rich sugar, mainly sucrose, glucose and fructose. In addition, sugarcane also contains other substances needed by the human body, such as protein, fat, calcium, phosphorus, and iron.

Among all fruits, sugarcane ranks first in iron content and is known as the "blood-replenishing fruit".

Sugarcane is rich in carbohydrates, which can provide the body with sufficient heat energy and is effective in preventing and treating hypoglycemia. Sugarcane has a high water content and contains a variety of organic acids, which can cool down and relieve heat and eliminate fatigue.

It can be seen that sugarcane is very rich in nutritional value, and sugarcane juice is very sweet. Friends who like it should not miss it!
