What to do with scars from traditional thyroid cancer surgery

Traditional surgical scars for thyroid cancer generally refer to scars left after surgical treatment of thyroid cancer patients. Thyroid cancer is a malignant tumor originating from the follicular epithelium or parafollicular epithelial cells of the thyroid gland. It usually has no obvious symptoms in the early stage and is often discovered through physical examinations. As the disease progresses, symptoms such as neck lumps, difficulty swallowing, and difficulty breathing may appear.

For patients with thyroid cancer, if the condition is mild and there is no distant metastasis, it can be treated by surgical removal of the lesion. Since the thyroid gland is located in the front of the neck, the skin, subcutaneous tissue, and muscles need to be cut during surgery, which will leave scars on the neck. Usually, the scar will gradually soften and become lighter about 3-6 months after surgery, but it may take about 1 year to fully return to normal.

If the patient is concerned about scars, they can use drugs such as silicone gel under the guidance of a doctor to help reduce scars. At the same time, they can also apply Centella asiatica cream ointment, recombinant human epidermal growth factor gel and other drugs for auxiliary treatment according to the doctor's advice. If necessary, laser treatment, microneedle therapy and other methods can also be used to improve.

Patients are advised to pay attention to a reasonable diet in their daily lives, eat foods rich in high-quality protein and fresh fruits and vegetables appropriately, which can supplement the nutrients needed by the body. At the same time, they should also pay attention to getting more rest, ensure adequate sleep time, and avoid staying up late.
