What is the reason why thyroid cancer cannot be operated on

Thyroid cancer is a malignant tumor originating from the thyroid follicular epithelium or parafollicular cells. Clinical manifestations include neck lumps or nodules, which may be accompanied by fever, fatigue, dyspnea and other symptoms. The reasons why thyroid cancer cannot be operated on mainly include surgical contraindications, lesion location, distant metastasis, and disease progression, which require specific analysis of specific issues.

1. Contraindications to surgery: If the patient has severe cardiopulmonary insufficiency, or liver and kidney failure, and cannot tolerate surgery, surgical treatment is not recommended. This is because the surgery may increase the burden on the heart or liver, and in severe cases may endanger the patient's life;

2. Location of the lesion: If the lesion is close to the trachea or recurrent laryngeal nerve, surgery is contraindicated because the nerve may be damaged during surgery. If the recurrent laryngeal nerve is damaged, symptoms such as choking when drinking water and hoarseness may occur. If the lesion is close to the esophagus, the esophagus may be damaged during surgery, resulting in esophageal fistula or esophageal stenosis.

3. Distant metastasis: If thyroid cancer metastasizes to the lungs, liver, or brain, surgery is not possible. For example, if lung metastasis occurs and the lesion cannot be removed surgically, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, or other treatments can be used;

4. Disease progression: If thyroid cancer patients are diagnosed at an advanced stage and multiple organs are affected, including the heart, surgical treatment is not recommended at this time. This is because surgical treatment at this time may increase the patient's heart burden, and severe cases may cause heart failure.

In addition to the relatively common reasons above, there are other possible diseases, such as the patient cannot tolerate surgery. It is recommended that patients actively cooperate with doctors for treatment and maintain a good attitude, which will help improve the quality of life.
