What is the water temperature for brewing oolong tea?

The brewing of oolong tea is very particular. Brewing oolong tea, which is what we often call Kung Fu tea, has requirements not only on tea utensils, but also on the water temperature, water quality, amount of tea leaves, brewing time, and number of brewing times. Only by following these requirements can the charm of oolong tea be better expressed. So if you want to make your tea drinking more tasteful, then you should pay attention to the following points:

1. Good tea, good water, and good tea sets

As the saying goes, "Water is the mother of tea, and the teapot is the father of tea." In addition to good tea leaves, you also need good water and good teapots to fully express their charm. It is best to use purified water or mineral water, and the best tea sets are "Yitao Jingci" (Yixing pottery, Jingdezhen porcelain).

2. Pot type and tea quantity

Select the type of teapot according to the number of people drinking tea, and determine the amount of tea to be added based on the capacity of the teapot. If the tea leaves are tightly packed hemispherical oolong tea, they should take up 1/3 to 1/4 of the volume of the teapot; if the tea leaves are loose, they should take up half of the pot.

3. Water temperature requirements

Since oolong tea contains certain special aromatic substances that can only be fully developed under high temperature conditions, it must be brewed with boiling water.

4. Soup time

The time for brewing tea is also very important. If the time is too short, the aroma of the tea leaves will not come out. If the time is too long, the tea leaves may be overcooked, which will affect the flavor of the tea. The soaking time for the first brew of Fujian and Taiwan Oolong tea is generally about 45 seconds, and the second brewing time is about 60 seconds, and each subsequent brewing time can be slightly increased by a few 10 seconds. The brewing time of oolong tea from northern Fujian and Chaozhou is much faster, and the first brew only takes 15 seconds.

5. Brewing times

Generally, three times is the best time to brew green tea, while it is said that "the fragrance lingers after seven brews" for oolong tea. If brewed in the right way, each pot can be brewed more than seven times.

It can be seen from this that if you want to fully display the charm of oolong tea, you must make sure that the water is boiling water. This will allow the aroma of the oolong tea to fully evaporate, allowing people to perceive the beauty of oolong tea from multiple angles of smell, taste, and vision. If you are interested, you might as well read the introduction above carefully, make some oolong tea for yourself, and enjoy your own taste of life!
