Will thyroid cancer recur without chemotherapy?

Will thyroid cancer recur without chemotherapy?

Whether thyroid cancer will recur without chemotherapy needs to be comprehensively judged based on factors such as the pathological type and stage of thyroid cancer and the patient's physical condition. If it is a papillary thyroid cancer with a lower degree of malignancy and no lymph node metastasis or distant metastasis, it may not recur.

1. Possible recurrence: Thyroid cancer is a malignant tumor originating from the thyroid follicular epithelium or parafollicular epithelial cells, and is usually divided into four pathological types: papillary carcinoma, follicular adenocarcinoma, medullary carcinoma, and undifferentiated carcinoma. Papillary carcinoma and follicular adenocarcinoma are low-grade malignant tumors, while medullary carcinoma and undifferentiated carcinoma are highly malignant tumors. If the patient has the above-mentioned types of thyroid cancer, and lymph node metastasis or distant metastasis has occurred at the time of discovery, recurrence may occur even after surgical treatment;

2. There may be no recurrence: For papillary thyroid carcinoma, the prognosis is good because of its low malignancy. If the patient undergoes surgical treatment in time after diagnosis and follows the doctor's advice with adjuvant treatments such as chemotherapy after surgery, there will generally be no recurrence. For follicular adenocarcinoma, although it is more malignant, if the patient undergoes surgical treatment in time after diagnosis and follows the doctor's advice with adjuvant treatments such as radiotherapy and chemotherapy after surgery, there is a certain chance that it will not recur.

It is recommended that thyroid cancer patients actively cooperate with doctors for treatment after diagnosis to avoid delaying the disease. At the same time, they should also pay attention to maintaining a good attitude in daily life and avoid excessive tension and anxiety.
