Will thyroid cancer metastasize if it is not treated for more than half a year?

Thyroid cancer is a malignant tumor that originates from the thyroid follicular epithelium or parafollicular cells. If the patient does not receive treatment for more than half a year, the condition may continue to worsen and even endanger life. In such cases, it is recommended that patients actively cooperate with doctors for treatment. Common treatment methods include surgical treatment, radionuclide therapy, endocrine therapy, and external radiation irradiation.

1. Surgical treatment: Surgery is the first choice for the treatment of thyroid cancer. Common surgical methods include total resection, lateral resection, microwave ablation, laparoscopic thyroidectomy, etc. It should be noted that if the patient has contraindications to surgery, such as severe heart disease, severe lung function impairment, etc., surgical treatment is usually not recommended;

2. Radionuclide therapy: Radionuclide therapy can kill tumor cells through radionuclide β rays, thus achieving the purpose of treatment. However, this method is radioactive, so in order to prevent unnecessary damage to the body, it must be performed after evaluation by a professional doctor;

3. Endocrine and external radiation therapy: Endocrine and external radiation therapy destroys thyroid tissue through radiation, reducing the production of thyroid hormones or increasing their consumption to achieve the purpose of treatment. However, this type of treatment is prone to cause hypothyroidism, so it is recommended to be used under the guidance of a doctor.

In addition to the above common treatment methods, patients with advanced thyroid cancer can also use chemotherapy drugs such as paclitaxel injection and vincristine sulfate injection under the guidance of a doctor, or undergo targeted therapy. Drugs can inhibit the growth of tumor cells. Commonly used drugs include erlotinib hydrochloride tablets and trastuzumab injection. For patients with thyroid cancer, it is recommended to complete relevant examinations in a timely manner, such as neck ultrasound and tissue biopsy, to clarify the stage of the disease and choose the appropriate treatment method according to their own situation. If the patient's condition improves after treatment, regular follow-up examinations can be performed.
