Which is better for thyroid cancer, single or double resection

The treatment of thyroid cancer mainly depends on the pathological stage. Generally, the earlier the stage and the smaller the lesion, the greater the possibility of surgical resection. For patients with thyroid cancer, there is no such thing as single or double resection. A reasonable treatment plan should be selected based on the patient's specific situation.

1. Total thyroidectomy: generally refers to the complete removal of both sides of the thyroid gland, and completes the total removal surgery together with the thyroidectomy. Total thyroidectomy can be used to treat thyroid cancer, but for patients with smaller lesions and negative lymph nodes, total thyroidectomy can also be chosen;

2. Subtotal thyroidectomy: Subtotal thyroidectomy is a surgical procedure that preserves most of the thyroid function and some thyroid tissue. It is generally suitable for patients with thyroid cancer. However, for older patients with larger tumors or lymph node metastasis, subtotal thyroidectomy should be chosen as much as possible.

3. Total thyroidectomy: Total thyroidectomy can be used for patients with various types of thyroid cancer, such as papillary thyroid cancer, follicular thyroid cancer, medullary thyroid cancer, etc. Patients with papillary thyroid cancer should undergo total thyroidectomy, while patients with follicular thyroid cancer and medullary thyroid cancer should undergo total thyroidectomy;.

4. Minimally invasive thyroid surgery: Minimally invasive thyroid surgery refers to making a small incision in the abdomen or neck and performing the surgery with instruments to reduce surgical trauma. Minimally invasive thyroid surgery can reduce the risk of intraoperative bleeding and lymph node dissection, but if the lesion is large or there are many lymph node metastases, it is still recommended that the patient undergo open surgery.

For the treatment of thyroid cancer, the treatment method should be selected according to the specific situation of the patient. For patients in the early stage, surgical treatment is usually chosen under the doctor's advice. If there is lymph node metastasis or distant metastasis, surgical treatment can be combined with auxiliary treatments such as radionuclide therapy, endocrine therapy and external radiation irradiation.
