Why does thyroid cancer cause teeth numbness?

Thyroid cancer is a malignant tumor that originates from the thyroid follicular epithelium or parafollicular cells. Tooth numbness may be caused by compression of peripheral nerves by thyroid cancer, or by alveolar abscess or mandibular metastasis.

1. Thyroid cancer: Tumors originating from the thyroid follicular epithelium, also known as thyroid cancer, are often related to genetic factors, iodine intake, etc. There are no obvious symptoms in the early stage. As the tumor grows, it may compress or invade the peripheral nerves, causing neck lumps, neck pain, tooth numbness, etc. It can be treated with drugs such as radioactive iodine, thyroid hormone, interferon, etc. under the guidance of a doctor. It can also be treated with surgery, such as total resection, lateral neck lymph node dissection, etc.

2. Alveolar abscess: It is a complication of periodontitis, mostly caused by the development of apical periodontitis. Pus penetrates the bone cortex and reaches the gums, which can cause tooth numbness. It can be treated with antibiotics under the guidance of a doctor, such as metronidazole, cephalexin, etc., and abscess incision and drainage can be performed if necessary;

3. Mandibular metastasis: If thyroid cancer patients have mandibular metastasis, it will compress the corresponding nerves, causing numbness of the inferior alveolar nerve, which will cause numbness of the teeth. At this time, radiotherapy and chemotherapy should be carried out in time to inhibit the growth of cancer cells. At the same time, analgesics can be used for pain relief, such as ibuprofen sustained-release capsules, acetaminophen capsules, etc.

If the patient has thyroid cancer, he should go to the hospital in time, follow the doctor's advice for relevant treatment, and maintain a good attitude to face the disease correctly. He should also eat fresh vegetables and fruits in moderation, such as celery and apples, which are conducive to recovery from the disease.
