What are the complications of ovarian cancer

Ovarian cancer is not easy to detect in the early stages. When symptoms become obvious, it is usually in the late stages and causes a series of complications, which have a serious impact on the patient's life and threaten the patient's life. Let's take a look at the complications of ovarian cancer.

Spontaneous rupture and bleeding: Some ovarian cancer tumors may rupture spontaneously due to ischemia and necrosis of the cyst wall or tumor erosion and penetration of the cyst wall, or traumatic rupture due to squeezing, gynecological examination and puncture. After rupture, the cyst fluid flows into the abdominal cavity and irritates the peritoneum. The patient may have severe abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, shock and other symptoms. During physical examination, the patient is found to have symptoms of peritoneal irritation, and the original cancer foci have shrunk or disappeared. After diagnosis, immediate surgical treatment is required to thoroughly clean the abdominal cavity.

Situations in which pedicle torsion occurs: It mostly occurs in cystic tumors with long pedicles, medium size, high mobility, and center of gravity biased to one side. It often occurs when the body position changes suddenly. After the pedicle torsion, due to the obstruction of the tumor artery and venous return, the tumor may become necrotic, congested, infected, or even rupture and bleed. The patient will experience severe lower abdominal pain, which may be accompanied by nausea, vomiting, and even shock in severe cases.

Occurrence of infection: The probability of occurrence is small, and it is mostly secondary to the twisting or rupture of the cancer pedicle. Patients present with fever and abdominal pain. Laboratory tests reveal varying degrees of increase in white blood cell counts. Physical examinations may reveal signs of peritonitis, and the infection should be actively controlled.

By the late stage of the disease, the patient's body is already very weak, and the emergence of complications makes the condition worse. Therefore, at this stage, the patient must cooperate with the doctor's active treatment to strive for a longer survival period.
