What are the signs of ascites in lung cancer

The presence of ascites in patients with lung cancer may be a serious sign of lung cancer, indicating possible subdiaphragmatic lymphatic obstruction, hypoproteinemia, and tumor compression of veins.

1. Subdiaphragmatic lymphatic vessel obstruction: Lymphatic vessels are distributed throughout the body, and lymph fluid circulates in the lymphatic vessels. If the cancer cells of lung cancer patients have caused the lymphatic vessels to be blocked, part of the body's tissue fluid may form ascites.

2. Hypoproteinemia: If lung cancer develops to the late stage, the tumor consumes a lot of the body. If malnutrition occurs, the patient may suffer from hypoproteinemia, causing abnormal water exchange inside and outside the blood vessels, causing water in the blood vessels to enter the abdominal cavity, causing ascites.

3. Tumor compresses the veins: When lung cancer develops to the late stage, the size of the tumor continues to increase. The enlarged tumor may compress the veins, causing obstruction of venous blood return. If it enters the abdominal cavity, it may also form ascites and cause edema.

Lung cancer patients with ascites need to take diuretics under the guidance of a doctor to drain the water in the abdominal cavity. If the ascites is severe, abdominal puncture and drainage can also be used to promote the discharge of ascites.
