Can small cell lung cancer be cured?

Small cell lung cancer cannot be cured, but the condition can be improved and the patient's survival can be prolonged through chemotherapy, surgery, radiotherapy and other methods.

1. Chemotherapy

Retoposide or irinotecan hydrochloride and cisplatin are the first-line chemotherapy regimens for the treatment of this disease, with a total of 4 to 6 cycles. It is recommended as an adjuvant therapy for patients who have undergone surgical resection. Ifosfamide and cisplatin are also commonly used chemotherapy regimens for the treatment of this disease and can be used for patients with recurrent small cell lung cancer.

2. Surgery

Lobectomy and lymph node cleaning are common surgeries for the treatment of this disease, but about 90% of patients have chest or distant metastases when they are treated, so surgical treatment is not recommended. If there are comprehensive pathological staging methods, such as mediastinoscopy, mediastinotomy, etc., for negative patients, surgical treatment can be considered, but surgery alone cannot cure this disease.

3. Radiotherapy

Radiotherapy can inhibit the development of tumors, delay the spread of tumors, and relieve the patient's symptoms. Generally speaking, radiotherapy and chemotherapy are used to treat small cell lung cancer. Due to the different purposes of staged treatment and the patient's condition, the combined regimen can choose synchronous radiotherapy and sequential radiotherapy.
