Is nasopharyngeal cancer contagious? Is it highly contagious?

Is nasopharyngeal cancer contagious? How contagious is it?

1. Nasopharyngeal carcinoma is one of the common malignant tumors in my country. Although it occurs in many countries and regions in the world, the incidence rate in most parts of the world is relatively low, generally below 1/100,000.

2. Common clinical manifestations of nasopharyngeal carcinoma include runny nose, nosebleed, nasal congestion, tinnitus and hearing loss, headache, swollen cervical lymph nodes, facial numbness, diplopia, etc.

3. Regarding the infectiousness of nasopharyngeal carcinoma, experts have conducted relevant experiments. Cancer tissue taken from cancer patients was directly implanted in another person and found that nasopharyngeal carcinoma tissue could not survive and grow. Cancer animals and healthy animals were kept apart for a long time, and after repeated observation and examination, there was no infection. Therefore, nasopharyngeal carcinoma is not contagious.

4. Sometimes many families have multiple nasopharyngeal cancer patients at the same time, which is why some people think that nasopharyngeal cancer can be infected. But nasopharyngeal cancer itself is not a source of infection and is not contagious. According to research, most nasopharyngeal cancer patients carry a virus called Epstein-Barr virus, commonly known as the "kissing virus", which can induce nasopharyngeal cancer. But it will not cause nasopharyngeal cancer.

5. Generally speaking, nasopharyngeal carcinoma is not infectious like other bacteria. The presence of Epstein-Barr virus aggravates the induction of nasopharyngeal carcinoma, but it does not fundamentally prove that nasopharyngeal carcinoma is contagious.
