Does blood in mucus necessarily mean nasopharyngeal cancer?

Does blood in mucus necessarily mean nasopharyngeal cancer?

1. The presence of blood in the nasal discharge during pregnancy does not necessarily mean nasopharyngeal cancer. It may be nosebleeds caused by dry air and damaged nasal mucosa. The patient may also have symptoms caused by nasal inflammation, or it may be nasopharyngeal cancer. It is recommended to go to the hospital for an examination to rule out the possibility of nasopharyngeal cancer.

2. Blood in the nasal discharge should rule out nasopharyngeal cancer bleeding. First, make a rough judgment based on the symptoms. Most of the nasal bleeding is from the front of the nose, which may drip out. It is difficult to distinguish between bleeding in the back of the nose and bleeding in the nasopharynx. Bleeding in the back of the nose is generally large in amount. The typical early symptom of nasopharyngeal cancer is blood in the mucus in the morning, and the amount of bleeding is generally small.

3. In a dry environment, the nasal mucosa will evaporate quickly, exposing the inner wall of the nasal cavity to the air. It is not only prone to dryness, itching and pain, but also can induce capillary rupture, resulting in blood in the nasal mucus.

Can nasopharyngeal cancer be detected through rhinoscopy?

If nasopharyngeal carcinoma is located outside the pharyngeal recess, nasal endoscopy may not reveal any abnormalities, or a bulge in the nasopharynx may be seen. In this case, nasopharyngeal CT or MRI is needed to determine the location of the mass, and then a biopsy under nasopharyngeal endoscopy can be performed to further clarify the location.

Primary nasopharyngeal cancer may invade the brain without affecting the appearance of the nasopharyngeal mucosa. A negative first nasopharyngeal biopsy or a normal appearance of the nasopharyngeal membrane cannot rule out nasopharyngeal carcinoma. Suspected patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma should be followed up closely, and repeated nasopharyngeal biopsies should be performed if necessary.

Nasopharyngeal cancer can be detected through nasal endoscopy, which usually refers to nasal endoscopy, and abnormalities in the nasopharynx can be detected.
