We all know that nasopharyngeal carcinoma is very harmful to humans. Generally, radiotherapy is the main treatment. So what are the general care after radiotherapy for nasopharyngeal carcinoma? How can we treat it to recover?

What is the general care after radiotherapy for nasopharyngeal carcinoma?

Nursing principles after radiotherapy for nasopharyngeal carcinoma:

1. Keep your mouth clean. You can rinse your mouth with light salt water and brush your teeth with a soft-bristled toothbrush until the oral mucosa returns to normal.

2. Apply nasal drops 2-3 times a day to keep the nasal cavity clean. Do not pick your nose hard to prevent bleeding.

3. Keep doing mouth opening exercises 100 times a day to prevent temporomandibular joint dysfunction. Keeping doing mouth opening exercises is also a very necessary nursing principle after radiotherapy for nasopharyngeal carcinoma.

4. It is recommended to eat high-protein, high-vitamin, easily digestible foods, such as lean meat, eggs, fish, vegetables, and fruits, and avoid spicy and irritating foods.

5. Protect the skin in the radiation area. Wear a hat to cover your skin when going out. Do not apply cosmetics or irritating ointments. Do not use soapy water or irritating bath gel to wash the skin until the skin in the radiation area returns to normal.

6. Tooth extraction is contraindicated within 3 years, because the body's resistance is low after radiotherapy, and bacteria can enter the gums after tooth extraction, causing osteomyelitis and bone necrosis. If you need to have a denture, you can do it about 1 year after radiotherapy.

How is nasopharyngeal cancer treated?

Nasopharyngeal carcinoma is mainly treated with radiotherapy, and residual lesions can be surgically removed. Most nasopharyngeal carcinomas are moderately sensitive to radiotherapy, and radiotherapy is the first choice for nasopharyngeal carcinoma. However, for highly differentiated cancers, advanced disease courses, and cases of recurrence after radiotherapy, surgical resection and chemotherapy are also indispensable means.

When treating nasopharyngeal cancer, you can provide some care during the treatment so that you can recover your health as soon as possible.
