What diseases can HPV cause

HPV, or human papillomavirus, is a common virus that can cause a variety of health problems. HPV is best known for its close relationship with cervical cancer. In fact, almost all cases of cervical cancer are linked to HPV infection, which is why cervical cancer screening and HPV vaccination are so important. HPV can also cause other types of cancer, including vaginal cancer, vulvar cancer, anal cancer, and some head and neck cancers.

But HPV can also cause some non-cancerous diseases. For example, genital warts are caused by infection with certain types of HPV. These warts may appear on the genitals or around the anus, and although they are usually painless, they may cause discomfort or psychological distress. In young people, HPV infection is also the cause of laryngeal papillomatosis, a disease in which benign tumors form in the throat or trachea, affecting breathing and voice.

Although it sounds scary, not all HPV infections will cause serious health problems. In fact, most HPV infections are asymptomatic and will be cleared by the body's immune system within months to years. It can be seen that the results of HPV infection vary from person to person, depending on the type of virus, the site of infection, and the individual's immune status.

In order to prevent HPV-related diseases, HPV vaccination is an effective measure. HPV vaccine can prevent multiple high-risk HPV infections, thereby reducing the risk of related cancers and genital warts. For people who have already been infected with HPV, regular cervical cancer screening and health checks are also crucial to detect and treat possible health problems early.

Understanding HPV and the diseases it may cause can help us take preventive measures to protect our health. Through vaccination, health screening and maintaining good living habits, we can effectively reduce the health risks brought by HPV infection. I hope this information can help you better understand and deal with HPV-related health issues.
