What to do about pain from nasopharyngeal cancer and what medicine to take to relieve it

The pain caused by nasopharyngeal carcinoma requires the selection of appropriate analgesics based on the cause under the guidance of a doctor, and the treatment plan should be followed to relieve the symptoms.

The pain of nasopharyngeal carcinoma is usually related to the location of the lesion, tumor compression, nerve involvement, or side effects of chemotherapy and radiotherapy. This pain may manifest as a sense of pressure in the head and neck, persistent dull pain, or unbearable severe pain, which can affect the quality of normal life in severe cases. Simple self-medication may not effectively relieve the pain and may also mask the progression of the disease.

A three-step analgesic regimen is routinely used in treatment, with a phased approach from basic drugs (such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen) to strong analgesics (such as morphine) according to the severity of the pain. If the pain is caused by nerve compression, neuropathic analgesics (such as gabapentin) may need to be added. At the same time, improving nutritional status, maintaining a balanced mentality, and using local physical therapy methods can also help improve comfort.

Patients are advised to take medications as prescribed by doctors and not to try new drugs at will. At the same time, they should eat a balanced diet and pay attention to the intake of high-protein and high-vitamin foods; avoid eating spicy, irritating or cold foods to avoid aggravating discomfort. If the pain obviously affects your life or the effect is not ideal, it is more important to communicate with the doctor in time and adjust the treatment plan.
