Tennis Scoring Rules

Tennis Scoring Rules

Tennis has long been regarded as an aristocratic sport. It used to be a very popular sport in developed countries such as Europe and the United States. In recent years, as Chinese tennis players have continued to achieve excellent results internationally, the sport of tennis has become increasingly understood and loved by Chinese sports fans. If you want to understand tennis, you must first start with its scoring rules. Let me give you a detailed introduction below.

First of all, tennis matches are divided into best-of-three sets and best-of-five sets. Each set is divided into rounds, usually six rounds. The players on both sides take turns to serve. The same person serves in each round, and the next round will be the other side's turn to serve for the entire round, and so on. The set ends when one side wins six games first and wins by two or more games. If the score is 5 to 5, the game ends when the score is 7 to 5.

If the two sides are tied at 6-6, they will enter a tiebreak, and whoever wins the seventh game first will win the set. In each game, the winner is the one who wins 4 goals first and beats the opponent by more than 2 goals. The specific scoring method is that winning the first ball is 15 points, winning the second ball is 30 points, winning the third ball is 40 points, and winning the fourth ball is 60 points. Whoever reaches 60 points first and wins by two goals wins the game.

If the score is tied at 40, whoever wins the next ball is called AD, which means they will win the game if they win one more goal. If the other team wins the next ball, the scoreboard will be marked as 40-all again, and this process will continue until one team wins by two goals. In some competitions, especially men's competitions, a best-of-five format is used, with no tie-break. If the game ends in a 2-2 tie after 4 games, the winner is the one who wins the longest game.

There are now new regulations for the penalty of balls that hit the line, which mainly depends on whether the entire tennis ball is in or out of bounds to judge whether the ball is out of bounds. Now, with the introduction of high technology, Hawkeye technology is used in tennis matches. Players can apply to the referee for Hawkeye to avoid misjudgments during the game. But there are regulations on the number of times Hawkeye can be used.
