What to do if toenails grow into the flesh

What to do if toenails grow into the flesh

Nowadays, people are very active in trimming their fingernails, and many women will get manicures to make their fingernails beautiful. However, toenails are not treated so well. Generally, toenails are trimmed only after they grow long. However, many friends have found that if the toenails are not trimmed in time, they will easily grow into the flesh, especially the big toe, where the nails are particularly prone to growing into the flesh.

If we use medical terms to describe the growth of flesh on toenails, it is called ingrown toenails. Generally, when people find ingrown toenails, they will habitually go to a pedicure shop to have them trimmed. In fact, this is not the best solution, because it is not a medical facility and cannot completely solve the problem of ingrown toenails. What should I do if my toenails grow into the flesh?

Ingrown toenails are a common foot disease. They occur when the toenails are trimmed too deep or too low, and when the toes are squeezed by wearing pointed, skinny shoes. In the early stage, ingrown toenails only cause pain. Ingrown toenails are very likely to be complicated by nail groove tissue infection, which is clinically called paronychia. At this time, there is obvious redness, swelling, and heat in the local area, accompanied by severe pain. After suppuration, purulent secretions will flow out locally.

Keep your nails trimmed regularly to avoid digging into the flesh. Pay more attention to hygiene in daily life. If there is swelling or pain, you can apply some mupirocin ointment (Bactroban), which is an antibiotic applied topically to the affected area to treat Gram-positive bacteria, especially staphylococcal and streptococcal skin infections. It is also effective against drug-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. It has a certain effect on some negative bacteria. Such as: impetigo, furuncle, follicular and eczema combined with infection, ulcers with infection, trauma with infection.

Some patients, especially when combined with paronychia, will go to the hospital for treatment. The routine practice of most hospitals is to perform nail extraction to treat ingrown toenails without doing any treatment on the germinal layer of the nail root, so that after the new toenail grows, it will still grow in the original direction and eventually grow into the flesh. Moreover, this method is very painful, takes a long time to heal, and most importantly, it cannot cure ingrown toenails.

After knowing what to do if toenails grow into the flesh, in order to better avoid the situation of toenails growing into the flesh, you must develop the habit of trimming toenails regularly. When trimming, you must also pay attention to caring for the skin around the toenails and avoid over-trimming. Only in this way can you avoid the situation of toenails growing into the flesh as much as possible.
