What to do if you stutter

What to do if you stutter

Stuttering is what we call stammering. Ignorant children will laugh at others when they see them stuttering. Even now, some adults still think that people who stutter are funny and sometimes imitate the way they speak. This can have a huge psychological impact on patients with stuttering. Some children may stutter when they are young, and there are many reasons why children stutter.

Children may stutter due to genetics, physical problems, or mental factors. Generally speaking, children who stutter when they are young will no longer stutter when they grow up, but it is not ruled out that some people still stutter when they grow up. For children who do not speak fluently, we should create a relatively relaxed environment and not let them feel stressed and nervous. So let’s talk about what we should do about stuttering.

1. Pronunciation:

It means pronouncing the words softly at the beginning of each sentence, changing the characteristic of stutterers who often pronounce the first word quickly and heavily. The speaking speed should be reduced to a very slow level, starting with 60-100 words per minute, while people usually speak at a speed of 200 words per minute. This has two effects: first, the slow pace makes people calmer, and second, it creates a sense of rhythm. Both of these points can effectively reduce stuttering. People who stutter do not stutter when reciting or singing because there is a stable sense of rhythm in it.

2. Breathing method:

Abdominal breathing is advocated. Because deep breathing can enable muscles to achieve proper exercise and coordination, it can relax and ease the tension in various parts of the body and facial muscles and gradually eliminate accompanying movements. Deep breathing can affect people's emotions and can ease and calm excited emotions.

3 drug treatment methods:

Taking a certain amount of sedatives every day or before speaking to relieve tension can achieve a certain degree of predictive fluency. This method is more popular in Western countries. Drugs that have a certain influence include Xanax, Celexa, prozac, Paxil, zyprexa, etc. Note: Medication must be used under the supervision of a doctor. Long-term use may cause damage to your body.

Do you remember the comedy star who played Mr. Bean? He was actually a stutterer, but his experience and acting skills told us that people with stutters can also have a broad new world. For patients with stuttering, they should not give up on themselves or become inferior just because they are laughed at by others. We should strengthen our language training and constantly improve our own connotation. I believe that the disease of stuttering will be away from us as soon as possible.
