Causes of cholecystitis

Causes of cholecystitis

For patients with cholecystitis, the most painful thing is knowing that they have the disease but cannot get it cured. In fact, this disease is quite common. We should have all heard of appendicitis. This disease is as common as appendicitis. Cholecystitis is caused by abnormal bile in the gallbladder. There are more female patients than male patients, especially those who are obese and have given birth to children many times.

Although cholecystitis is relatively easy to treat, it can have dire consequences if it is not treated promptly at the beginning. Some people, after suffering from cholecystitis, don't know it is a disease and think it will be fine after a rest. In fact, this is not the case. This disease is divided into acute and chronic types, and both diseases of different degrees cause harm to the human body.

Acute cholecystitis can cause pain in the right upper abdomen. At the beginning, the pain is very similar to biliary colic, but the abdominal pain caused by acute cholecystitis often lasts longer. Breathing and changing body position often make the pain worse. Therefore, patients like to lie quietly on the right side to relieve abdominal pain. Chronic cholecystitis is the most common gallbladder disease. Patients usually also have gallstones, but chronic cholecystitis patients without stones are not uncommon in China. Chronic cholecystitis can sometimes be a sequela of acute cholecystitis, but most patients have never had acute cholecystitis in the past. Due to long-term inflammation of the gallbladder, the gallbladder wall will undergo fibrous thickening and scar contraction, causing gallbladder atrophy. The cyst cavity may be completely closed, leading to gallbladder dysfunction or even complete loss of function.

1. Acute cholecystitis

Many patients develop the disease in the middle of the night after eating a greasy dinner, because a high-fat diet can increase the contraction of the gallbladder, and lying flat can make it easy for small gallstones to slide into and become embedded in the gallbladder duct. The main symptoms are persistent pain in the right upper abdomen, which worsens intermittently and may radiate to the right shoulder and back; it is often accompanied by fever, nausea and vomiting, but chills are rare and jaundice is mild. Abdominal examination revealed fullness in the right upper abdomen, tense abdominal muscles in the gallbladder area, and obvious tenderness and rebound pain.

2. Chronic cholecystitis

Symptoms and signs are atypical. Most of the symptoms are biliary indigestion, aversion to greasy food, upper abdominal distension, belching, heartburn, etc., which are similar to ulcer disease or chronic appendicitis. Sometimes, due to stones blocking the gallbladder duct, it may be an acute attack, but when the stones move and the obstruction is relieved, the condition will improve rapidly. Physical examination may reveal mild tenderness or percussion pain in the gallbladder area; if there is hydrops in the gallbladder, a round, smooth cystic mass can often be felt.

The above explains the causes of cholecystitis. Friends who have read it should understand it. In fact, this type of cholecystitis will have some symptoms, but some careless people often think it is a minor problem and ignore it. If you find yourself having the above symptoms, it is best to go to the hospital for a check-up, so that you will feel more at ease.
