What does hb mean

What does hb mean

In this world we live in, there are many completely different diseases, some of which can infect people and some of which cannot. And now we know very few diseases, because there are still many diseases that we don’t know about. For example, when it comes to medical terminology, we can understand it in plain language, but most people will be unfamiliar with it when it comes to professional terminology, for example: HB.

So, what does HB mean? In fact, HB is what we usually call hemoglobin. This HB is essential to our human body and is inseparable from our health. It can work with red blood cells to reflect whether a person bleeds or not.

Its Chinese name: hemoglobin, English name: Hemoglobin.

The test introduction about it is: Hemoglobin is the main component of red blood cells. Its function is to combine oxygen in the lungs and deliver it to tissues throughout the body and to deliver carbon dioxide in the tissues to the lungs for exhalation out of the body.

Its clinical significance is: Since red blood cells and hemoglobin are closely related, their clinical significances are basically the same. But hemoglobin can better reflect the degree of anemia.

Normal reference values for hemoglobin: 120-160 g/L (12.0-16.0 g/dl) for males; 110-150 g/L (11.0-15.0 g/dl) for females; 170-200 g/L (18.0-19.0 g/dl) for newborns.

Each Hb molecule is composed of 1 globin and 4 heme groups (also known as ferrous protoporphyrin). Each heme is composed of four pyrrolyl groups forming a ring with an iron atom at the center. Each globin has 4 polypeptide chains, each of which is connected to at least one hemoglobin to form a monomer or subunit of Hb. Hb is a tetramer composed of 4 monomers. The composition of the polypeptide chain of globin in different Hb molecules is different. The polypeptide chain of adult Hb (HbA) is 2 α chains and 2 β chains, with an α2β2 structure. Fetal Hb (HbF) consists of two α chains and two γ chains, with an α2γ2 structure.

Having said so much, everyone should have a detailed understanding of HB. Since we all know that HB actually refers to hemoglobin, and we also know that the level of hemoglobin can well reflect a person's anemia condition, so if anemia occurs in our future life, while taking medication, we must not forget to eat more foods that can increase the body's hemoglobin to ensure our body's health.
