The flowering period is from April to June, and the fruiting period is from May to August. Cardamom is a shade-loving plant. It likes warm, shaded and humid weather and is afraid of drought. It cannot tolerate strong direct sunlight but can tolerate light frost. It prefers an annual average temperature of 18-22℃ and an annual rainfall of 1800-2300mm. Cardamom is not very demanding on soil. Generally, slightly acidic soil with rich humus and loose texture is most suitable for its growth.

Cardamom is the mature seed cluster of the cardamom plant of the ginger family. Cardamom is a perennial herb that grows in mountains, sparse woods, valleys, river banks and forest edge wetlands. Distributed in Guangdong, Hainan, Guangxi and other places. The fruits are harvested when ripe in summer and autumn, dried in the sun until 80% to 90% dry, peeled, and the seeds are taken out and dried in the sun.

The mature seed cluster of cardamom is spherical or elliptical, with 3 blunt edges and 3 shallow grooves, and a diameter of 1.5 to 3 cm. The surface is gray-brown or yellow-brown, divided into three chambers by a yellow-white septum in the middle. Each chamber contains 22 to 90 seeds, which are not easy to disperse. The seeds are oval polyhedrons with a slightly raised back, a round hilum at the thicker end, and a longitudinal groove on the ventral side. Hard texture, milky white cross section. It has a fragrant aroma and a spicy and pungent taste. The best ones are those that are large, full, solid and have a strong aroma.

Cardamom is pungent and warm in nature; it enters the spleen and stomach meridians; it has an aromatic dispersing effect; it has the effects of warming the middle and drying dampness, promoting qi and strengthening the spleen; it is mainly used to treat internal obstruction of cold and dampness, cold pain in the abdomen, fullness and distension, vomiting and diarrhea, indigestion, bad breath, phlegm and fluid, athlete's foot, malaria, and fish poisoning.
