A trick to cure sinusitis

A trick to cure sinusitis

Mr. Zhao from Changchun, Jilin Province, consulted: In autumn and winter, the air is dry and cold, and you will catch a cold and have a runny nose if you are not careful. The sinusitis I have suffered from for many years has recently relapsed. I wake up every morning sneezing and having a runny nose. My nose is blocked at night and I can’t fall asleep because of the stuffiness. It’s extremely painful. Neither oral medication nor topical medications are effective. I would like to consult an expert to see if there are any good folk remedies.

"Very Old Folk Remedies" published by Shanxi Science and Technology Press: Respiratory tract infection, respiratory tract allergy, and anatomical abnormalities of the nasal cavity and sinuses are the three main causes of sinusitis. Its main clinical manifestations are nasal discharge, nasal congestion, decreased sense of smell, and head and facial pain. Sinusitis is called "nasal sinusitis" in traditional Chinese medicine. It can be divided into deficiency and excess. The excess is mostly caused by dampness and heat, while the deficiency is mostly caused by deficiency of the lungs and spleen.

Patients may wish to try the "loofah vine therapy": find several meters of old loofah vines, dry them, cut them into thin sections, bake them until they are half-burnt, but be sure not to let them become burnt, then grind them into powder on a panel and put them in a bottle for later use. When using, clean the snot in the nasal cavity, wipe the nasal cavity with a clean cotton ball, ask your family to help blow the loofah vine powder into the nasal cavity with a thin plastic tube (the small tube used for drinking yogurt will do), and then plug the nostrils with a dry cotton ball. This method is best used before going to bed at night.

Traditional Chinese medicine believes that loofah vines are bitter, slightly cold, slightly poisonous, and enter the heart, spleen, and kidney meridians. Their effects are relaxing muscles, activating blood circulation, strengthening the spleen, and killing insects. "Medical Biography" records: "To treat constant discharge of smelly yellow water from the nose and even occasional brain pain, burn a loofah vine about three to five inches long, grind it into fine powder, and mix it with wine to drink." Modern research has found that the main component of loofah vine is saponins, which have antitussive and expectorant and antibacterial effects. Medical scientists of all generations have proven that loofah vines are effective in treating sinusitis.
