Insomnia is a sign of depression

Insomnia makes people suffer extremely, tossing and turning, unable to sleep at night. The biggest desire of insomniacs is to have a good sleep. If they don’t sleep well, they will feel dizzy, have a swollen head, and have back pain. There may be no abnormalities in the physical examination, but they may suffer from depression without knowing it.

The professor said that 90% of depression patients suffer from insomnia and loss of appetite. Insomnia is a sign of depression. 40% of people first have depression symptoms and then have difficulty falling asleep, 20% have depression symptoms and insomnia at the same time, and quite a number of people develop depression after suffering from sleeplessness for a long time.

The causal relationship between insomnia and depression is still unclear. Some studies have shown that depression leads to abnormal hormone secretion and affects sleep, while other studies have reached the opposite result, that long-term insomnia and chronic lack of sleep can induce depression.

A survey shows that 10% of the people in a community suffer from insomnia, of which 40% suffer from depression. The risk of developing depression for those who suffer from insomnia for one consecutive year is 40 times that of those with normal sleep.

People who work three-shift jobs are prone to chronic sleep deprivation, and the longer they do this kind of work, the more likely they are to develop depression. The professor warned that the most terrible thing about neglecting treatment of depression is that it can lead to suicide. Since 1998, more than 30,000 people have committed suicide in Japan each year, and more than half of them are suffering from depression. Since 1995, Akita Prefecture, which has the highest suicide rate in Japan, has begun a trial to treat depression by treating insomnia. The results show that improving sleep in the early stages of depression is very effective.

People with anxiety disorder are mostly hardworking and responsible people. The separation of loved ones, the blow of unemployment, etc. can easily cause people to suffer from insomnia, long-term mental depression, and then develop depression. People who suffered from insomnia during their school years were most likely to develop depression. It is recommended that you go to the hospital for treatment.
