Symptoms of obesity

Symptoms of obesity

Obesity, as the name suggests, is a disease that causes a person to become abnormally obese. This disease affects both children and adults. Patients with this disease will suddenly start to gain weight for unknown reasons, and people often think that it is caused by problems with their diet or lack of exercise. So people try to control their diet or exercise, but this often has no effect. At this time, everyone must pay attention to whether they are suffering from obesity.

Obesity Everyone hates it. It is really terrible to suffer from obesity. Well today I will tell you about the symptoms of obesity so that you can understand them and avoid delaying treatment when they occur.

1. General manifestations

Simple obesity can occur at any age. The juvenile type is obese since childhood; the adult type mostly develops at the age of 20 to 25 years old; but clinically, it is more common in middle-aged women aged 40 to 50, and it is also not uncommon in the elderly over 60 to 70 years old. About half of obese adults have a history of childhood obesity. Generally, weight gain is slow (except after women give birth). Rapid weight gain in a short period of time should be considered as secondary obesity. In men, fat is mainly distributed in the neck, trunk and head, while in women, fat is mainly distributed in the abdomen, lower abdomen, breasts and buttocks.

The characteristics of obese people are that they appear short, fat and round, with a narrow upper part and wide lower part of the face, a double chin, a short and thick neck, and obvious thickening of the skin folds at the back of the head when the head is tilted back. The chest is round, the intercostal space is not obvious, and the breasts are enlarged due to the thickness of subcutaneous fat. When standing, the abdomen protrudes forward and is higher than the chest plane, and the navel is deeply sunken. People who are obviously obese for a short period of time may have purple or white lines on both sides of the lower abdomen, the thighs, the upper inner part of the upper arms, and the outer side of the buttocks. In obese children, the external genitalia are buried in the subcutaneous fat of the perineum, making the penis appear small and short. The fingers and toes are short and thick, and the skin on the back of the hand is sunken due to fat thickening at the metacarpophalangeal joint, and the bone protrusion is not obvious.

Mild to moderate primary obesity may not cause any subjective symptoms, while people with severe obesity often suffer from heat intolerance, reduced mobility, and even mild shortness of breath during activities and snoring during sleep. There may be clinical manifestations such as hypertension, diabetes, and gout.

2. Other manifestations

(1) Obesity and the cardiovascular system Obese patients are more likely to develop coronary heart disease and hypertension than non-obese people. The incidence is generally 5 to 10 times that of non-obese people, especially in patients with central obesity with a high waist-to-hip ratio.

Through the introduction of the above content, we can understand that obesity is a relatively common disease, and generally not just a single group of people will suffer from obesity. However, obesity among children is also relatively common and is one of the situations that worries parents the most. Once it occurs, it is best to go to a professional hospital for formal treatment and develop healthy eating habits.
