Viral intracranial infection

Viral intracranial infection

Intracranial infection can occur at any age, and it generally has an incubation period. If you have intracranial infection, you will experience symptoms such as general discomfort and sore limbs. In severe cases, you may also experience intellectual disability and hemiplegia of the limbs. It is very harmful to human health. Therefore, intracranial infection needs to be actively treated. What is the treatment for viral intracranial infection?

How are viral intracranial infections treated?

Intracranial infection is not terrible. What is terrible is that the best time for treatment is delayed. If the correct treatment method can be taken in time, most patients can be cured. For viral encephalitis, tuberculous meningitis, and fungal meningitis, different approaches are used depending on the pathogen.

What are the causes of intracranial infection?

Intracranial infections mainly include meningitis, encephalitis, brain abscess, etc. The pathogens that cause intracranial infection may be bacteria, viruses, parasites, mycoplasma, chlamydia, fungi, rickettsia, etc., so intracranial infection is a very broad concept. There are four types of infection routes.

(1) Direct infection: refers to the situation where, due to external factors, the brain is directly opened to the outside world, allowing bacteria to enter the brain and cause intracranial infection. For example, in the case of craniocerebral trauma, there are foreign objects left in the skull, including hat pieces, hair, skin, skull fragments, bullets or shrapnel, and other weapons that caused the injury. This type of trauma is prone to complications such as intracranial infection, intracranial hematoma, acute encephalocele, increased intracranial pressure, acute cerebral edema and late-onset epilepsy, which can easily lead to the death of the injured person. Emergency debridement surgery must be performed early to close the cranial cavity and convert open injuries into closed injuries.

(2) Spread of infection in adjacent areas: If there is inflammation in areas adjacent to the brain tissue, such as sinusitis, otitis media, mastoiditis, etc., when an acute infection occurs, bacteria can spread into the skull and cause intracranial infection.

(3) Hematogenous infection: When bacteria or viruses are highly virulent and the patient's resistance is poor, they can enter the brain through the blood circulation and cause intracranial infection. In addition, if the patient has pneumonia or congenital heart disease, it may also cause intracranial infection.

(4) Nosocomial infection: The incidence of this type of infection is very low.
