How does interventional therapy eliminate liver cancer? Introduction to interventional therapy for liver cancer

Interventional treatment of liver cancer is the process of introducing special puncture needles, catheters, guidewires, balloons, stents, drainage tubes and other precision instruments into the human body under the guidance of medical imaging equipment to diagnose and locally treat some liver diseases.

Interventional therapy can be roughly divided into two types according to the route: transvascular and non-transvascular interventional therapy.

Transvascular interventional therapy is the most commonly used treatment method. It is to inject the corresponding chemotherapy drugs and embolic agents into the hepatic artery. Liver cancer patients have special characteristics: liver cancer has a very rich and single blood supply, so interventional treatment for liver cancer patients is relatively simple in terms of technology. Liver cancer is very suitable for interventional treatment. Embolization therapy for liver cancer patients can occlude tumor blood vessels, shrink tumor blood vessels, and cut off the source of nutrition for the tumor to achieve the purpose of treatment.

There are also non-vascular interventional treatments, such as percutaneous and transhepatic ablation therapy. Regardless of whether it is radiofrequency, microwave, or cryosurgery, these local interventional treatments are currently collectively referred to as ablation therapy. Most of these ablation treatment methods are percutaneous and transhepatic. Through such channels, physical or chemical methods are used locally on the tumor, rather than in the blood vessels, to ablate and necrotize the tumor.
