7 Mistakes We Make Every Hour

7 Mistakes We Make Every Hour

You could be putting your health at risk at any time and not even realize it. Recently, the Popular Health Network magazine published an article summarizing the mistakes people make every hour. You may want to take a look and see if you have fallen into any of these mistakes.

Touching the face

We subconsciously wipe our noses when we are nervous, and support our chins with our hands when we are tired... People always like to touch their faces. According to data from the National Institutes of Health, people touch their faces an average of 4 times per hour. Research from the University of Arizona shows that the number of bacteria on every 6.5 square centimeters of a table is 100 times more than that in a toilet. If you touch your face after contact, it is easy to spread the bacteria to the skin, increasing the risk of skin diseases and infectious diseases. Dr. Whitney Bowe, a dermatologist in New York City, points out that touching your face frequently may clog your pores, which can lead to acne after two weeks.

Sitting all the time

Numerous studies have shown that prolonged sitting increases the risk of obesity, heart disease, diabetes, stroke, and more. The latest research from Northwestern University in the United States found that for every additional hour of sitting per day, the risk of disability in the future will increase by 50%. What’s worse is that even if you exercise every day, sitting for too long can still harm your body. It is recommended to get up and move around for a few minutes every 30 to 60 minutes.

Frequently refresh social networking sites

Frequent use of social software such as Weibo and WeChat during working hours will not only affect work, but may even put your marriage at risk. A Chilean study found that people who frequently use social media are twice as likely to have thought about divorce in the past 12 months as those who rarely or never use it. Researchers explained that social software can easily make people compare with each other, create jealousy, and make it easier to cause extramarital affairs through online communication.

Snacks

Many people like to eat snacks while working. Researchers at the University of Liverpool in the UK found that when people eat while working, their minds are not focused and they eat more calories. This overeating effect will continue until the evening, and over time it is easy to gain weight due to excessive calorie intake. Researchers recommend that you should not be distracted when eating, and it is best not to eat at your desk, let alone eat while working.

Rubbing your eyes

When I feel sleepy or have been reading or using the computer for too long, I always can't help rubbing my eyes with my hands. Dr. Keith Walter, professor of ophthalmology at Wake Forest University in the United States, pointed out that rubbing your eyes will cause the cornea to become thinner, leading to vision abnormalities, and laser surgery cannot be used to correct vision. If you wear contact lenses, you should not rub your eyes casually. If your eyes are often dry, itchy or uncomfortable, you should go to the hospital for treatment in time.

Holding urine

Many people hold back from going to the toilet because they are in meetings or dealing with business. It is not a big problem once or twice occasionally, but once it becomes a habit, it will damage the sphincter and cause urinary tract infection, bladder infection and other problems. In severe cases, it may even cause urinary incontinence due to the loss of sphincter elasticity.

Not tidying up your desk

A study by the University of Minnesota shows that a cluttered desk can also affect your health. The researchers asked two groups of office workers to work on messy and tidy desks respectively. After 10 minutes, they were offered apples or candies. The results showed that 67% of those with tidy desks chose apples, while 80% of those with messy desks chose candies. Researchers say an organized environment helps people make good decisions, including those that are good for their health.
