What is the reason for the high neutrophil count

Neutrophils have a normal range of values. If you have a cold, fever, or an inflammatory infection caused by other reasons, the number of neutrophils will change, for example, it may be too high or too low. However, many patients do not know what is going on with a high neutrophil count, because they do not understand how to treat it if it is too high. Therefore, this article will analyze this situation for you.

An elevated neutrophil count is generally caused by acute and suppurative infections (furuncles, abscesses, pneumonia, appendicitis, erysipelas, sepsis, visceral perforation, scarlet fever, etc.), various poisonings (acidosis, uremia, lead poisoning, mercury poisoning, etc.), tissue damage, malignant tumors, acute massive bleeding, acute hemolysis, etc.

If the neutrophil count is too high, appropriate antibiotics should be used for treatment based on the symptoms. For the route of administration, intravenous administration can be used if the condition is very serious, and oral administration can be used if the condition is not too serious. For antipyretics, intramuscular injection can be used, which takes effect faster than some and can quickly relieve the symptoms of body aches. Broad-spectrum antibiotics should be used, such as ampicillin, which is cheap and effective.

Neutrophils are characterized by colorless or very light red cytoplasm in Wright-stained blood smears, with many diffusely distributed tiny (0.2-0.4 microns) light red or light purple granules. The cell nucleus is rod-shaped or 2-5 lobed, with lobes connected by filaments. Neutrophils have chemotactic, phagocytic and bactericidal effects. Neutrophils originate from the bone marrow, have a lobed or rod-shaped nucleus, and their cytoplasm contains a large number of fine neutrophil granules that are neither alkalitropic nor acidophilic. Most of these particles are lysosomes, which contain abundant enzymes such as myeloperoxidase, lysozyme, alkaline phosphatase and acid hydrolase, and are related to the phagocytic and digestive functions of cells.

In fact, no matter what the reason for the high neutrophil count is, if the neutrophil count is abnormal, we cannot ignore it. We must face the disease actively and choose the right method for treatment according to our own situation. Only by restoring the neutrophil count to normal as soon as possible can you recover from your disease soon!
