Nursing methods for femoral fracture

Nursing methods for femoral fracture

Femoral fracture is a very common disease. It is said that it takes a hundred days to heal a bone after a menstrual injury, so it is a disease that requires time to recover. Most patients with this disease are the elderly, because their bones are difficult to grow, so once they fall, they will suffer fractures. This is also the reason why the elderly are not allowed to go out on rainy days. Regarding how to care for femoral fractures, there are some relevant introductions and suggestions here. As long as you read them carefully, you will not panic when encountering such situations in the future. Of course, it is best not to encounter it.

Since most of the patients are elderly, attention should be paid to observing the patient's overall condition to prevent complications caused by long-term bed rest, such as pneumonia, urinary tract infection, and hip varus deformity.

During traction, watch the patient for foot drop and note any compression on the lateral side of the knee. Prevent complications such as pneumonia, bedsores, and urinary tract infections. The elderly have poor blood circulation and less activity, making them more prone to bedsores. This is especially true when the patient is using a bedpan. If the body is not lifted high enough, the bedpan may rub the skin when it is pulled out and pushed in under the buttocks, which may further develop into bedsores. Therefore, family members should patiently explain the truth to the patient in order to gain the patient's cooperation. The method for the patient to cooperate is to hold the handles on the traction frame with both hands, and at the same time push the healthy leg on the bed to lift the entire upper body and buttocks. This can promote the patient's whole body exercise except for the affected limb, and enhance blood circulation and breathing volume. And because the body position changes from lying down to sitting up, it is beneficial to the discharge of urine sediment.

For patients who are prone to bedsores, massage of pressure areas should be strengthened. For elderly people with thin bodies, an air ring or foam plastic pad should be placed on their buttocks. Encourage the patient to cough and try to cough up phlegm. Ask the patient to sit up, take deep breaths, and pat his back every morning when he gets up and before going to bed at night.

Encourage patients to drink plenty of water or beverages to flush the urinary tract and prevent urinary tract infections. Elderly patients who are bedridden are often listless and lazy to move. In addition, they are afraid of pain when moving, and are afraid of drinking too much water, urinating frequently, and the trouble of using a potty. Therefore, family members need to encourage and help patients to move more. During lower limb traction, a semi-recumbent position is adopted to relax the tendons and lumbar muscles, which is conducive to the alignment of the fracture ends. Remember to place a small pillow or cotton pad behind your waist to maintain the physiological lordosis and prevent back pain. Encourage patients to do functional exercises in a planned manner, such as ankle, toe, and quadriceps exercises.

If you have elderly people at home, you must pay attention to the above aspects. Also, these femoral fracture care methods are very reasonable and worth taking a look at.
